I've been contemplating for 24 hours on what to write as an event recap. I still can't put it into words. I'm blown away by the reception to this event and all the positives to come out of it. Couple that with the events in SA and the cyclekart buzz happening now in Queensland, its looking like it's going to be an awesome 6 months ahead.
What a day! Our first ever Cyclekart Club of Australia event in New South Wales — and the biggest gathering of cyclekarts in the country so far.
We had six cyclekarts on site, plus a beautifully preserved 1925 Singer Ten cyclecar that really stole the show. Four of the cyclekarts were complete and running, while two more were in the build stage, giving everyone a great look at different stages of the process.
Around 35 people came and went throughout the day — regular members, new builders, and plenty of curious locals who wandered in off the street to see what it was all about. It was fantastic to see so many people chatting, sharing ideas, and getting inspired to start their own builds.
The test and tune sessions under the Farm View Pavilion were a real highlight. Ian Paul, Rick Jones, Donald Swanson, and David Grevengoed all took part in some exhibition laps, giving everyone a taste of what these little machines can do. Rick Jones went above and beyond, generously letting others take the wheel of his kart for a few runs — a true show of the Cyclekart spirit.
Paul’s kart had a few teething issues early on, but with everyone pitching in tools, parts, and know-how, he was soon back up and running for the rest of the day. It really showed the collaborative side of this hobby — everyone helping each other out and learning along the way.
After a few hours of running and tinkering, everyone gathered for a relaxed barbecue lunch. I organised the food and put together a couple of salads, while Anthony took charge of the grill as our chef for the day. He did a fantastic job — the barbecue was spot on and enjoyed by all. It was a great chance to sit down, share stories, swap build ideas, and just enjoy some good company.
We had people come from all areas — Goulburn, Springwood, Wedderburn, Camden, Hunters Hill, and the Central Coast plus all the locals. I’d like to thank everyone who attended, whether you drove two minutes or two hours. To friends old and new — thank you for being part of creating a community.
A special thank you to Josh Woods and Ben Woods for bringing down the beautiful 1925 Singer Ten, to Nathan Roche and Camden Council for their support and for providing such a stunning venue, To Donald Swanson and Ian Paul - the original trailblazers in NSW cyclekarts for their support, and most of all a big thanks to Anthony Martinovski who was my right hand and a key part of making the day happen. Finally, to Mick Percy for backing me from day one, for his encouragement and friendly ear — even from 1300 km away.
What an incredible start for cyclekarting in NSW. Here’s to many more!Post is under moderationStream item published successfully. Item will now be visible on your stream. -
